During this project we had to make a band with groups selected by the types of music you preferred. My group-mates were Kyle, Simon, and Christa. Along with all the fun with making a band there were also requirements that we had to follow. Our group had to have three different types of instruments. We had to have a string instrument, wind, and chime, the instruments had to have a full octave, and we had to have a blue print of the instrument.
I decided to make the chimes. with the chimes I had the chimes 1 cm difference in length. The longer the chimes were the lower the notes were. I had to keep the chimes elevated so that the pipes could vibrate creating the notes. to elevate the pipes I hung them with fishing line to keep them from the ground. The sound that the chimes make is determined by the thickness and length. A full octave is eight notes, so the chimes also had eight metal pipes.
The box that the pipes were on was built as a sound box so that the pipes could display a louder sound. i used a metal pipe to hit the other pipes rather than plastic so it was louder. The reason that metal is so much louder is that Metal is much denser and stiffer than plastic.
This project was a bit harder than the others because i had a limited background with music. But i did not let that stop me from making an instrument that could make some of the same notes(even though they may not have sounded as nice). My other group members were also helpful when I was confused or unclear on what the requirements were. We all played a part in the creation of one anthers instruments because we felt they would be more efficient that way. But I think that over all as a group we all feel like the group would be more successful If we all help out and listen to each other. All in all this project was more challenging but taught me more than the others.
