There are many types of medicines that we take from the ocean and use to help us humans. One of them is Pseudopterosins which is an anti inflammatory, and another one is w-conotoxin, this is a powerful pain killer. Pseudopterosins are Extracted from the octocoral (sea whip) Pseudopterogorgia elisabethae. They are a pain killer but also anti inflammatory. W-conotoxin is extracted from the cone snail and is a potent pain killer as well. The cone snail is a moving organism but most of the life in the ocean used to make medicines are sessile. Meaning they are none moving. A reason that the sessile organisms have the medicines is because they use them to repel predators, since they are non moving. And many of these species are filter feeders so they use the chemicals themselves to fight off unwanted bacteria.
