For this project we had to make art pieces using chemistry and some of our artistic skills. we chose to draw the San Marin logo and create paint by combining chemicals and paint the logo different colors.
The colors were made as following:
RED-zinc oxide and iron nitrate. this created a single displacement reaction.
BLUE- Iron chloride and potassium.
YELLOW- led nitrate and potassium iodide.
We then had to filter the solid out. after it was filtered out we then had to crush up the powder, I then added the powder to white paint to then make it the color of the powder.
I was a fan of this project when i heard about it at the beginning but then during the project I had found it not as fun as I expected. I would say that I contributed to this project pretty well and collaborated well with my group members. Our group worked through our differences and made the art piece even though it was not as well as we had hoped. I think that for our group as a whole we would crush up the paint more so that the powder did not have chunks in it. Since the powder had chunks in it it made it more difficult to paint and the paint looked chunky on the logo. All in all I learned to be patient in this project because in order to get the best outcome things will not always come right away.
